New Chiropractic Orthopedic Program
at National University of Health Sciences and at Northwestern Health Sciences University
Diplomate Program in Chiropractic Orthopedics

Completion of the 384-hour Diplomate Chiropractic Orthopedics program leads to Diplomate Eligibility, a status which allows participants to take the written and oral examination administered by the American Board of Chiropractic Orthopedists (ABCO). The clinical expertise gained from this course increases inter-and intra-professional communication and facilitates expansion of the patient perception of chiropractic.

The New Clinical Simulation Examination

A chiropractic orthopedist is required to make important clinical decisions regarding the well being of patients. Therefore, a clinical simulation examination is used to more realistically assess knowledge in such decision-making. The items on the ABCO Clinical Simulation Examination are designed to sample a broad range of competencies, not the recall of isolated facts. Therefore, the problems assess clinical problem-solving ability, including identifying, analyzing, diagnosing, and treating clinical problems. The problem areas are derived directly from the current Job Analysis of the chiropractic orthopedist.

The clinical simulation examination is a paper examination that utilizes latent image ink and is based on a decision algorithm model. It is designed to simulate an actual office visit and will eliminate the need for a face to face examination between examinee and examiner. This new examination format will prove to be more reliable, more valid and remain content appropriate.
